Employment Versus Education
There continue to be Press reports on the escalating costs of studying, top up fees and whether the student loan is a blessing or a curse.
Students are becoming more discerning in all respects and expect not only value for money when it comes to the quality of their tuition, but also an environment where a damp and run down student home is a thing of the past. Whether you are fortunate enough not to have financial worries or are faced with having to pay back your student loan for many years after graduation, it is vital that all students are given an opportunity to achieve their full academic potential and at the same time, enjoy a living environment which is pleasant, safe and secure.
For some, their time spent at University is time which could be better spent in employment - the entrepreneur anxious to prove himself/herself is a prime example. If you do choose this route, you can, however, limit your options and are often competing against others with better qualifications and don't forget that you may still be expected to take further qualifications while working.
Education undoubtedly gives you more choices and also broadens your outlook; to many their days at University rank among the best. It's not only about being able to study unencumbered by life's day to day minutiae, it's also a brilliant opportunity to meet lots of new people and to socialise.
The student loan system was designed to make it financially possible for all to have the same educational opportunities. If you are to benefit fully, it is, therefore, vital that you seek advice about which degree to select, learn how to budget and take really good advice about your career options.
Given the choice again, employment versus education, our Editorial Team would choose University and it really has nothing to do with those late nights discussing the day's tutorials and the long lie-ins....
