University debts hits a record £22billion
Student debts are now higher than the nation's entire transport budget, shock figures reveal.
And they have soared by almost £4billion in just a year - to a staggering £22billion.
That's £1billion more than the taxpayer spends on keeping our road and rail network moving.
Lib Dem universities spokesman Stephen Williams said: "Students are facing unprecedented levels of debt, which will have a dramatic long-term effect on their ability to buy homes, start families and save for old age."
